A Day at the Zoo
The big boys are on spring break now, so we took a trip to the Como Zoo in St. Paul. It was a gorgeous day, and we had a great time. Amelia loved growling at the lions and tigers, and Isaac loved the zebra. Alex and Ethan had a great time too, and I watched them relax and sink into vacation mode. We had a picnic in Como park and I took some cute shots of the kids there. It was a lovely start to spring break.
Arts and Academics Night
Tonight was Arts and Academics night at Ethan's school. He created a wonderful exhibit of paper planes. Here is a copy of the report he wrote to go with it.
This is my Arts and Academics project. It is an exhibit of paper planes. There are many different kinds. I think paper planes are fun. I enjoy paper folding. My dad helped me with my project. First, we decided which planes to make. Next, we made models out of scratch paper. Then, we tested them inside and outside. Last, we made them again out of fancy paper. This was harder than I thought it would be. Each plane took about an hour to do all the steps. It was hard to make all the folds straight. I am happy that I learned how to make good paper planes.

Muffin Tin Monday
Isaac loves muffin tin lunches, and today's looked so yummy I had to share. We took it outside to enjoy.
Left to right he has:
Lowfat yogurt drink, hard boiled egg made in car mold, whole wheat pancake wrap with flax meal, peanut butter and honey, red grapes, snow pea pods, and orange slices.
I started my vegetable seeds in a little tabletop greenhouse last week. They are sprouting!! They have started to grow, and will be ready to transplant into bigger containers in a couple of weeks, and then into the garden in May. I started tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, peppers, chives, cucumbers, squash, zucchini, peas, basil and parsley. Oh, I can not wait!!
The Poopy Corral
Mike took a little drive this morning to a riding school in Medina to get some manure for the garden beds. The name of the manure facility? The Poopy Corral. Seriously, I can't make this stuff up. The beds are now nice and nourished, and very pungent. But, look at this picture, do you see that little tulip poking her head up? She's not scared of poop.

Ethan's bento box turned out so yummy looking today that I just had to share!! I love making cute healthy lunches for him and he loves eating them! Alex and Mike both ask for bentos too. Mike eats lunch in the cafeteria at work, but I make him a mini bento for a snack, and Alex has ventured out of the hot lunch line for a bento box.
Ok, I am really not doing well with this blog. I miss doing it too. I have missed documenting a whole month. :( So, I am resolved to do better. It was gorgeous today, sunny and warm. We all headed into the backyard after school to play, and I remembered how much I love spring. It is so marvelous to get back outside. Amelia loves wandering around the back yard, and she is so cute, picking up sticks and things, and just enjoying the sunshine. The boys of course wrestled, ran around like crazies, poked each other with sticks, and threw frisbees over the fence.

Isaac was playing with a Lego storm trooper, a pirate and a knight today. They had a purple plastic Easter egg for a spaceship. As he blasted them along in the spaceship they were asking, "are we there yet?"and he would answer "we're almost there, be patient." I asked him where they were going and he told me. Target.
Tonight was the annual Cub Scout father-son cake decorating contest. The theme this year was "Your favorite thing about Scouting". Ethan had a wonderful time at scout camp last year, so he decided that an archery cake would be great. I baked the cake in the largest tier of my wedding cake pans, so it was HUGE! Dad and Ethan painstakingly cut and placed all the licorice on Tuesday night, and then the bow and arrow were put in place once we got to the church. Ethan won second place (silver), but i think he was most excited by getting to play with the bow and (suction cup) arrow after the cake was cut.

A Little Teapot
Amelia got a tea set for her birthday and she loves it. She is quite the little hostess, and carries her teapot around. She will pour for anyone who asks, and drink from her cup with a resounding slurp. Now we just have to get that pinky up....
